This quote is very significant because it marks the important theme of desire/will to live within the story. The will to live is a sensitive topic in such a society because it obviously seems as there is not much to live for. With the the unavailability of activities and free will what is there to enjoy in such a life? The lives of people in Oceania seem to only have one purpose, serving Big Brother. So, finding a reason to live is necessary for survival in Oceania. In the story, Winston seemed to have this hatred for women. To find him actually beginning to love and desire a woman is very interesting. He described this love as a piece in aiding his "desire to stay alive," this is significant like I stated before because in order to live in a society like this you must find other reasons to want to live. If you have nothing to live for, then what is the point of following a government that doesn't allow you to think or live how you want to? It is very intriguing that of all things, love is what created this necessary aspect of life for Winston.

Very nice choice of quote and your presentation of it remarkable. I agree with you in the sense that if you don't have a reason to live they why live at all. Really nice how you described what Winston felt and his reaction to his feelings. It's actually nice that you brought up how now Winston has a reason to live and also how you pointed out that the only reason citizen of Oceania should have is to serve Big Brother.
